TAT DEXTER

Tat Dexter is a south african maker who is currently living and studying in utrecht, netherlands.
care , community and research are central to their work. with themes like colinism, critical reflections on photography, queer identity and love, care for others and creating bonds with communities are often represented in their work.
they work (most of the time) with archive material and (local) research, they enjoy using a tad of humour to make the heavy themes they seem to be drawn to slightly more palatable.

they are currently experimenting with alternative processes within analog photography.

they have a great curiosity in small moments that have a big affect, especially historically and often use this as a starting point.

1. THE THEORY OF FALLEN TREES AND DISORDERED MUD
this work is research into my relationship with photography. by creating an alternative version of myself, a person who believes in other things, a kind of strangeness that floats around the forest, i also create the freedom to reflect on photography as a medium in a way that is not confined to the limits of this reality.

3. SCREENPRINTING
screenprinting is a very tactile process. it inloves many mistakes and frustrationg moments until it is perfect. i find this very enjoyable.
it can change a photograph completely, giving it new life.

4. tweede links

second bench to the left of the entrance from the park. why does no one sit on it? what is really the purpose of park benches? what happens when you wrap them in pink wrapping paper?

5. BIKES UNDER DYKES

@bikes.under.dykes
bikes under dykes is a queer cycling club that i started in march 2026.
it began with the focus on being in third spaces with FLINTA community while teaching people how to have more autonomy over their bikes.
it is now a growing collective , creating FLINTA spaces all over the netherlands. we host workshops, film evenings, cycling trips and have created online platforms connecting cycling queers all over the world.
